Operation Appolyon

By

Raymond Edwards

A political thriller which projects current events into a highly explosive fictional situation

Synopsis

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you became a downtrodden minority in your own country? What if the very person tasked with defending it had destroyed your homeland! How would you feel if a non-elected body consisting, in the main of your historical enemies, controlled it! Would you kill or be killed to get it back?

Operation Appolyon poses such questions (and more) in this political thriller loosely based on what is happening in Europe and England today.

The year is 2008 and, much against the will of the people, Britain has been a full member of the European Community since 2005.

A large group of people in England form a coalition with a view to taking England out of the hands of the Europeans and back under the control of its own people. Some are highly skilled and trained soldiers, others are just ordinary people who long for the days when England was a monarchy and proud of its history. They all know that to succeed they must kill without remorse, but are they willing to die for their cause?

Resistance is strong, but with careful planning and waiting for the right moment to launch Operation Appolyon, they believe they will succeed. They have one last trick up their sleeve to win England back – nuclear power; will they use it?

How far would you go?

  The heart beats strong

England, 2008

Thanks to a ruling party whose class hatred of Middle England knew no bounds England had suffered deprivation and continues to suffer as a result of having lost not only its sovereignty but also its identity along with its pride and nationhood.

Civil liberties had been curtailed and freedom of speech in particular eroded. Petty vindictive laws made it an offence to protest or voice personal views for fear of being hauled before the courts or vilified by the party machine.

Religious bodies and the Commission for Racial Equality too were enthusiastic in the use of these laws, which allowed them to promote their own agendas. Criticism of the Government was no longer tolerated and there was now a presumption of guilt rather than innocence. Overall this has had the predictable effect of stifling virtually all-legitimate protest as only those with absolutely nothing to lose dared speak.

Over two million illegal immigrants had been allowed to flood into England, ranging from those genuinely seeking a better life to organised gangs of criminals, gangsters, terrorists and the dregs of other societies. A direct result of this uncontrolled immigration was that potentially fatal diseases had spread throughout the communities.

The population quite justifiably felt helpless, angry and disenfranchised.

Violence was rife but as always the heart of old England still beat strong and, despite the danger the Government represents, large but unorganised paramilitary groups were forming throughout England.

Fighting to retain their pride and what they felt was rightly theirs, they were settling old scores with the establishment while also trying to protect the indigenous population and maintain law and order. It had got to the stage where the potential for a bloody civil and racial war was now a very real possibility.

The English Independence Party, despite obvious and enthusiastic support by the people of England, had been proscribed and its leader jailed; however, an ex professional SAS officer, Colonel Brian Jefferson, had long since had audacious plans to free England, ultimately leading to the English Independence Party taking power.

He commanded a small and highly secretive professional force, which was now ready to act. His plans involved simultaneous devastating attacks on the mainland and Europe with the aim of drawing in a European force which he correctly concluded would be the only way to engender full-scale revolt among the normally law-abiding people of England and turn the Army. This he firmly believed would bring condemnation from much of the Commonwealth and America, leading in turn to freedom and independence for Britain.

 The Committee

Organisation ERA (English Resistance Army)

Brian Jefferson – an ex-colonel in the Special Air Service. Twenty years in the force and countless high-level operations have enabled him to make friends and establish contacts at the highest level both political and militarily, particularly in the United States.

One would not suspect due to his demeanour that he came from an upper class family with a strong military background. This too has ensured that he has many friends and contacts in British military circles.

Brian strongly believes in a United Kingdom and British sovereignty. The fact that both have been lost fills him with a cold rage and he is determined to re-establish the status quo.

Over a number of years he has, using his expertise and contacts built up a small but highly professional force while developing an audacious plan first of all to gain England’s independence then make Britain whole again.

He is helped in this task by the new Labour Party’s ongoing and naked hatred of middle-class England and a prime minister whose arrogance and contempt for British institutions and its people have become legendary.

Peter Grey – served in the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment for twelve years then a further nine years in the Special Air Service during which time he became a Warrant Officer noted for his skills, dedication and overall ability.

It was this among other things that caught Jefferson’s eye and as a result Peter subsequently worked with Brian on many high-level operations. Eventually they became firm friends; a friendship that continued to flourish once they had both left the Forces.

Peter too hated what had become of Britain and like others felt shame about what had become of England. Born in Oxford and grammar school educated at a time when children were taught to be proud of their country he was ‘anti Euro’ and despised the government for its unbridled bigotry.

Harry Green – Londoner, served eighteen years as a Marine Commando; nine of those years were spent as a senior non-commissioned officer in the Special Boat Squadron. A genial nature gives lie to the real person who is actually very tough, extremely competent and one hundred per cent reliable.

Having left the force he now runs the family bakery with his wife Mandy but he shares the dreams and aspirations of both Brian and Peter whom he met on an advanced sabotage course. They subsequently became friends despite the well-established rivalry between the Marines and the Paras.

Bruce Candid – journalist for a centre right-wing tabloid, a well-respected paper with the highest circulation in Britain.

Bruce an ex-Oxford honours graduate; does not have a military background but his many years as a political journalist have taught him the difference between the everyday politician with their endless lies and deceits and those with evil intent. Over time Bruce became convinced that the core of the governing Party had one aim in life and that was the total destruction of the upper and middle classes and so by default middle England. He has taken every opportunity as a political writer to warn the general public of the Party’s long-term plans, never hesitating to name names and places, despite the endless attempts by the Government to vilify him.

A phone call from Brian one day followed by a long lunch was enough to convince him that here was a man to whom he could relate and above all support so he joined the committee of the ERA.

Mark Cottrell – recently retired after 34 years service is an ex-chief superintendent of the Metropolitan Police with 14 of these years having been spent as head of the anti-terrorist unit. Most people never knew of the many IRA and Islamic fundamentalist bombs that failed to reach their targets thanks to the skill and dedication of Mark and his team.

His anger and disgust with the Labour Party began as a result of the many Irish sympathisers contained within, which he had reason to believe culminated on many an occasion in information being given to the detriment of British forces. However, despite his conviction he was never able to prove it.

This anger and disgust has also been strengthened by the firm belief that police forces were being used in a way that they were never meant to be used, and - - -
