Frequently Asked Questions How many words can I display on your website? Normally 1500. Usually the first 200 words for a description of your story and the reminder as an example of your work. If you exceed this amount we may have to reduce print size to a point where it may not be easy to view. Poets should note that because of the layout of their work 1200 words should be considered as normal. How do I join new Authors Showcase? You may now submit your work on-line or by regular mail. On-line please see below. By regular mail you will need a booking Form. This will tell you how to present your work. You may send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the address on the Home Page or print one from this web site. Can I send my work on-line? Yes. This has proved very popular as much time, expense and materials are saved over regular mail. Please see home page. Can I make a payment on-line Yes. By using our secure PayPal system payments may be made in many currencies at no extra charge to you. Can I display graphics or Photos on your website? No, at this time we have no plans to display pictures. Can I use the translation service on your home page for personal use? Yes, the translation service is free by courtesy of Alta Vista Will your agency represent me apart from displaying my work on the web? Inclusion on New Authors Showcase website does not automatically mean that The Barrie James Literary Agency will represent you as a client. When we see work that is clearly outstanding, then we will offer the author a contract and act on his / her behalf. Do you make a charge for your services as a literary agent? No. Reputable literary agents will not ask for money for their services. Do you make a charge for display on your website? Yes. £35.00 six months. £50.00 12 months. How many of your authors are successful in getting work published? Although there are a number of published books advertised on our website, it is not clear whether publication was due to our display or new writers paying for publication themselves as advertisers are free to negotiate directly with publishers without notifying us. The exception to this is when we see work of outstanding quality and the author is invited to sign a contract and we will represent him as his regular agent. Our main concern is displaying unpublished work onto our website where new writers may invite others to see a sample of their creation. We encourage new writers to continue to send samples of their work to appropriate publishers together with the Internet address of New Authors Showcase where publisher's readers may see others works of the same genre. There is encouraging evidence that the site is becoming better known, not only from the visitors counter on the home page, but also the number of calls we are receiving from BBC researchers, TV producers and even a film company. Do you display published work? Yes, there are a number of published books on display. I have heard that web counters can be manipulated, is this true? We have heard that some internet advertisers 'adjust' the number of hits in order to impress and mislead viewers. I do not believe that our current software or Internet Service Provider would permit this, in any event we confirm that the figure is true. |
