Synopsis

Splash is a little watery figure, who has travelled to Cairo in his storm cloud. He falls out of the cloud with the rain to have an adventure and eventually leaves with the rain. He is mildly eccentric but friendly. He reacts to bad behaviour from adults by splashing them. Before making a surprise jump onto them, he stretches his watery body.

In Cairo, Splash befriends a small boy called Ashraf. Events take a turn for the worse, when Scream arrives in his storm cloud. Scream's idea of fun is far more menacing. He is deliriously happy when he makes adults scream. He achieves this by stretching his watery body to perform illusory tricks and pranks.

Splash informs Ashraf that the only way to stop Scream causing further mayhem in the museum and pyramids is to dissolve him in salt. They journey by camel to the Great Pyramid to attempt this.

EXTRACT FROM THE STORY

Splash lands on Ashraf, instead of the shop canopy 'Aaaarh' groaned Ashraf, stumbling backwards

Ashraf wiped his face with a hand. Which threw Splash into the air. He crashed against the shop windowpane. Hearing the thud, Ashraf turned round. What appeared to be a large blob of water was sliding down the windowpane. The blob moaned as it slowly reached the windowsill. After a moment it started to stretch. After another moment Splash appeared. Standing on the windowsill.

'There was no need for that' said Splash. Turning round to check his reflection in the window.

Splash is annoyed with Nagi

Splash was glaring at Nagi and began stretching. In seconds he was larger, thinner and rounder than he had ever been. The more annoyed he got the more he also turned red. Looking like a large pancake, Splash jumped onto Nagi's face. Splat! Then shattered into drops of water which fell across the floor.

Scream performs his mirror trick

He spotted a large mirror and decided to play a favourite trick. He stretched himself across the mirror. Then shaped himself to appear as a large eye. The eye blinked! As people stopped to check the mirror, Scream sprang out, pulling a monstrous face.

Ashraf and Splash search for Scream in the Great Pyramid

Ashraf flashed his torch into the pockets of darkness and grabbed a handful of salt.

'I'm over here' said Scream in the darkness.

Ashraf shone the torch in the direction of the voice.

'Not there. Over here' said Scream. Having moved in the darkness.

Ashraf tried again to catch him with the torch light. He seemed to have vanished and it went silent again.

The torch lit-up a large skull on a ledge. The mouth began to open and shut. The eyes in the sockets began to spin round. Faster and faster. Each eye rose in the air!

'He's good at this' said Splash to himself, about to scream. 'Throw the salt, Ashraf' he yelled, 'it's him'.

EXTRACT FROM THE STORY:

Scream dissolves in the salt

'Nothing's happening' said Ashraf, anxiously.

Scream heard him and sniggered. Just as he was about to jump down from the bag of salt, Splash pointed at him. 'Look he's starting to get holes'.

'Please....there's no such thing' said Scream, crossly. 'You get flu or a headache. You can't get holes', he added. Wagging a finger at Splash. 'Holes! Really...'

Scream then spotted a tiny hole in his wagging finger. He looked down at the rest of himself. 'I don't believe it! I have got holes! he said, angrily.

Scream began prodding each new hole that appeared. They were slowly getting bigger and bigger. When his prodding finger fell off, he rolled his eyes to the ceiling and shook his head. He attempted to jump up in fury. But didn't move. Looking down he saw that his legs had already dissolved and that now he was waist high in the salt.

He gulped. Then let loose the loudest yell he had ever let loose. 'I WILL GET YOU BOTH FOR THIS. HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME'.

Scream began to shake a clenched fist at Splash and Ashraf. In seconds all that was left of him was this arm and clenched fist, hanging the air. Still shaking angrily, the arm and clenched fist suddenly disappeared!
