This is an adventure story that starts in Devon and ends in Florida. A tale written in the English style that is reminiscent of Dick Francis who befriended the writer and encouraged him to persevere. Romance, treachery and heroism are just three of the many ingredients in this story that elevates a Torquay shopkeeper to the Presidency of a fictitious African State. An excerpt The Taurus, five shot, thirty-eight special I held in my hand was immensely reassuring. In the sweltering sticky darkness I felt the icy chill of fear as I waited breathless behind the little wicker fence that separated the beach from the hotel grounds. The temperature was well over ninety and God knows what the humidity was. The night was alive with the sounds, vibrations and smells that only Africa can produce. The air was filled with the clamour of insects and small animals, invisible and restless. I could hear the sigh of small waves breaking on the shore, smell bourgainvillia mingled with the unmistakable odour of human fear, my own... |
